5 Simple Yoga Exercises You Can Do at Home
A Few Minutes of Movement Can Change the Energy of Your Whole Day
You do not need a gym, expensive equipment, or even a complicated workout routine to take care of your body. Sometimes, all you need is a little space, a yoga mat, and 15–20 minutes for yourself.
Yoga is a beautiful way to gently move the body, improve flexibility, calm the mind, and reconnect with yourself.
Here are five simple yoga exercises you can easily practise at home.
1. Cat–Cow Pose
Begin on your hands and knees.
As you inhale, gently lift your chest and look slightly upward. As you exhale, round your back and bring your chin towards your chest.
Repeat slowly for 8–10 rounds.
Why it helps:
This gentle movement stretches the spine, releases stiffness, and can feel especially refreshing after sitting for long hours.
2. Child’s Pose
Sit back on your heels, gently bend forward, and stretch your arms in front of you. Allow your forehead to rest on the mat or a cushion.
Stay here for 30–60 seconds while breathing slowly.
Why it helps:
Child’s Pose gives the body a moment to relax and can help release tension from the back, shoulders, and mind.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is simply… stretch and breathe. 😊
3. Downward-Facing Dog
Come onto your hands and knees, then slowly lift your hips towards the ceiling, creating an inverted “V” shape with your body.
Keep your knees slightly bent if needed.
Hold for 20–30 seconds.
Why it helps:
It stretches the legs, shoulders, arms, and back while gently activating several muscles at the same time.
And yes, your heels do not need to touch the floor. Yoga is not an Olympic competition!
4. Cobra Pose
Lie on your stomach with your palms placed beside your chest.
Slowly lift your chest while keeping your lower body relaxed on the mat. Avoid forcing your back.
Hold for 10–20 seconds and repeat two or three times.
Why it helps:
Cobra Pose opens the chest, stretches the front of the body, and may help counter the rounded posture many of us develop while using phones and laptops.
5. Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose
Lie comfortably near a wall and gently raise your legs so they rest against it.
Let your arms relax beside you and close your eyes.
Stay here for 3–5 minutes.
Why it helps:
This is one of the easiest poses for slowing down after a busy day. Focus on your breathing and allow your body to relax.
Create Your Simple Home Yoga Routine
You can practise all five exercises together:
Cat–Cow → Child’s Pose → Downward Dog → Cobra Pose → Legs-Up-the-Wall
Move slowly, breathe naturally, and listen to your body.
You do not have to perform every posture perfectly. The purpose of yoga is not to prove how flexible you are.
It is about becoming more aware of your body, your breath, and the present moment.
Even 10–15 minutes of mindful movement can become a beautiful act of self-care.
Thought for the Day
“Your body does not always need punishment to become stronger. Sometimes, it simply needs movement, rest, breath, and kindness.”
Start where you are.
Move at your own pace.
And remember—consistency matters more than perfection.
