What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
What’s Something You’ve Done That You Never Thought You Could?
There are moments in life when we surprise ourselves.
Not because everything suddenly becomes easy.
Not because fear disappears.
But because one day, we find ourselves doing the very thing we once believed was impossible.
Maybe you walked away from a relationship you thought you could never leave.
Maybe you started again after losing everything familiar.
Maybe you travelled alone, changed careers, spoke up for yourself, survived heartbreak, learned to live independently, started a business, raised a child, healed from something painful, or simply got through a phase of life that once felt unbearable.
And somewhere along the way, you quietly became stronger than the version of you who first faced that challenge.
The Funny Thing About Courage
We often imagine courage as something dramatic.
A fearless person.
A huge decision.
A movie-style breakthrough moment.
But real courage is usually much quieter.
Sometimes courage sounds like:
“I’m scared, but I’ll try.”
Sometimes it looks like sending that application.
Sometimes it means saying no without explaining yourself for twenty minutes.
Sometimes it is getting out of bed on a difficult morning and deciding to face another day.
And sometimes courage is simply accepting:
“This chapter is over. I deserve to begin again.”
The interesting part is that most of us don’t recognise our own bravery while we are living through it.
We only notice it later.
We look back and think:
Wait… I actually did that?
Remember the Version of You Who Was Afraid
Think about something you once believed you couldn’t handle.
Maybe there was a time when you thought:
“I cannot live without this person.”
“I will never recover from this.”
“I’m not confident enough.”
“I can’t do this alone.”
“I’m too old to start again.”
“What if I fail?”
And yet, here you are.
Maybe everything didn’t unfold perfectly.
Maybe you cried.
Maybe you doubted yourself a hundred times.
Maybe you almost gave up.
But somehow, you kept moving.
That deserves acknowledgment.
We are very quick to notice what is still missing from our lives, yet surprisingly slow to celebrate how far we have already travelled.
Your Past Is Evidence
Whenever your mind tells you,
“I don’t know if I can handle what comes next,”
look backwards for a moment.
Not to stay in the past, but to collect evidence.
Remember the difficult conversation you survived.
Remember the heartbreak that once felt endless.
Remember the challenge that once kept you awake at night.
Remember the decision you were terrified to make.
Remember the day you finally chose yourself.
Your own life contains proof that you are capable of doing hard things.
You have already survived days you once thought would break you.
You have already grown into versions of yourself that your younger self couldn’t imagine.
Growth Rarely Feels Like Growth While It’s Happening
Growth can feel confusing.
It can feel lonely.
It can feel like uncertainty, endings, awkward beginnings and uncomfortable decisions.
Sometimes you don’t feel powerful while you’re changing.
You simply feel tired.
But months later, you realise:
That uncomfortable season was teaching me how strong I actually was.
The person you are becoming is often created during the chapters you would never willingly choose.
Today’s Reflection
Take a few minutes today and ask yourself:
What is something I have done that I once thought I could never do?
Don’t dismiss your answer because it seems small.
Maybe you learned to drive.
Maybe you moved cities.
Maybe you stood up to someone.
Maybe you started exercising.
Maybe you finally said what you truly felt.
Maybe you survived losing someone.
Maybe you opened your heart again after heartbreak.
Maybe you started creating content.
Maybe you learned to enjoy your own company.
Maybe you simply became stronger emotionally.
Whatever your answer is, honour it.
Because that moment tells you something important about yourself:
You are probably capable of far more than your current fears are allowing you to believe.
And Here’s the Beautiful Part…
There may be something in your life right now that feels impossible.
A dream.
A decision.
A relationship situation.
A career change.
A healing journey.
A financial goal.
A new beginning.
And perhaps your mind is whispering:
“Can I really do this?”
Maybe the answer isn’t available yet.
But your past has already given you a clue.
There have been other moments when you didn’t know how things would work out.
You figured them out one step at a time.
You may do exactly the same thing again.
So today, instead of asking only,
“What if I can’t?”
try asking:
“What if this becomes another thing I look back on someday and say… I never thought I could do that, but I did?”
Sometimes our greatest transformations begin with one tiny act of courage.
✨ Today’s reminder:
You don’t always need to feel ready.
Sometimes you simply need to begin.
Now tell me: What’s something YOU have done that you never thought you could?
Love & Light,
Himani Goyal
