Which Book’s World Would Be the Absolute Worst to Live In?

Books have taken us to magical castles, enchanted forests, futuristic cities and mysterious kingdoms. But not every fictional world deserves a boarding pass. 😄

If I had to choose one book world I would absolutely NEVER want to live in, my answer would be:

👁️ George Orwell’s 1984

Imagine living in a place where you are watched almost constantly.

Your conversations are monitored.
Your actions are monitored.
Your relationships are controlled.

And the truly frightening part?

Even your thoughts can make you suspicious.

In the world of 1984, privacy is practically extinct. The government controls information, rewrites history and decides what people are supposed to believe. Truth becomes whatever those in power say it is.

That means you cannot simply disagree quietly and carry on with your day. Even independent thinking can become dangerous.

No spontaneous opinions.
No honest conversations.
No freely choosing whom you love.
No confidently saying, “I remember things differently.”

Just imagine accidentally rolling your eyes at the wrong moment. 😅

Suddenly you are wondering:

“Did Big Brother see that?”

There are certainly other fictional worlds competing for the title.

🔥 The Hunger Games would be terrifying.
🧟 A zombie apocalypse novel? Absolutely not.
⚔️ Westeros? I would probably avoid weddings altogether.
🌋 Mordor? Beautiful scenery is definitely not the selling point.

But 1984 feels especially disturbing because the prison is not only around you.

It slowly enters your mind.

And perhaps that is what makes Orwell’s fictional world so frightening: when people lose the freedom to question, remember, speak and think independently, freedom itself begins to disappear.

Thankfully, we can visit dystopian worlds through books, close the cover and return safely to reality. 📖✨
