How Do You Define Success in Life?
Blog of the Day | Soul Talks with Himani Goyal 🌸
“Success is not just about how far you have travelled in life, but how peacefully you can enjoy the journey.”
Have you ever asked yourself a simple question: Am I truly successful, or am I just busy trying to become successful?
We live in a world where success is often measured by salary packages, job titles, luxury cars, beautiful houses, social media followers, and bank balances.
But here’s something worth thinking about.
What if you have everything the world calls success, yet you struggle to sleep peacefully at night?
And what if someone has an ordinary job, a small home, a loving family, and a heart full of gratitude? Would you call that person unsuccessful?
Perhaps we need to redefine success.
🌸 Success Is Not a Competition
Life is not a race where everyone must reach the finish line at the same time.
Someone becomes a CEO at 35. Someone starts a business at 50. Someone finds true love at 60. And someone discovers their purpose after experiencing several failures.
Does that make one person more successful than another?
Absolutely not!
We all have different journeys, priorities, struggles, and dreams.
Your success cannot be measured using someone else’s ruler.
💖 Success Is Having Peace Within Yourself
Imagine earning a wonderful salary but constantly feeling anxious, exhausted, and unhappy.
Now imagine earning enough to live comfortably while having time for yourself, your family, your hobbies, and your dreams.
Which life would you choose?
Money is important. Financial independence gives us choices, security, and confidence.
But money alone cannot guarantee happiness.
Real success is when your achievements bring satisfaction rather than becoming another source of pressure.
🌻 Success Is Being Able to Smile Despite Challenges
Life will never be perfect.
There will be disappointments, heartbreaks, professional setbacks, financial concerns, and unexpected challenges.
But success is not about avoiding difficulties.
It is about developing the courage to face them without losing your kindness, hope, and sense of humour.
Sometimes, getting out of bed after a difficult night is an achievement.
Sometimes, walking away from an unhealthy relationship is success.
Sometimes, saying “NO” without guilt is a personal victory.
And sometimes, simply choosing yourself is the biggest success of all.
✨ Success Is Becoming a Better Version of Yourself
You don’t need to impress the entire world.
Instead, ask yourself:
- Am I emotionally stronger than I was yesterday?
- Have I learned something from my mistakes?
- Am I treating people with kindness and respect?
- Am I creating a life that reflects my values?
- Am I genuinely happy with the person I am becoming?
If your answers are moving towards YES, congratulations!
You are already succeeding in ways that cannot be displayed on a résumé.
🌈 Success Is Having People Who Matter
A promotion deserves celebration.
A new house is wonderful.
A successful business is exciting.
But what makes these achievements truly meaningful?
Having someone to share your happiness with.
A genuine friendship, a loving relationship, a supportive family, or even one person who understands your silence can make life incredibly rich.
Success is not about having hundreds of people around you.
Sometimes, it is about having two or three people who genuinely stand beside you when life becomes difficult.
🦋 Success Is Living Life on Your Own Terms
Society has an interesting habit of creating deadlines.
Get married by this age.
Buy a house by that age.
Become financially successful before 40.
Settle down before it’s too late.
But who decided these deadlines?
Your life is not a school examination where everyone receives the same question paper!
You are allowed to dream differently.
You are allowed to change careers, start again, fall in love again, learn something new, and rewrite your story.
You haven’t failed just because your life looks different from someone else’s.
🌷 My Definition of Success
For me, success is a beautiful combination of professional growth, financial independence, emotional fulfilment, meaningful relationships, good health, and inner peace.
It is waking up with enthusiasm, doing work that gives purpose, having the freedom to make choices, and going to bed with gratitude.
It is also about bringing a little happiness into someone else’s life.
Because what is the point of reaching great heights if we forget to enjoy the view?
💫 A Little Soul-Searching Exercise
Tonight, before going to sleep, ask yourself:
“If nobody could see my achievements, would I still be proud of the life I am creating?”
Your answer may reveal more about your definition of success than any award, designation, or bank statement.
❤️ Final Thought
Success is not a destination where happiness suddenly begins.
It is the ability to appreciate your journey while continuing to grow.
Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Chase your ambitions, but don’t abandon your peace. Earn money, but also create beautiful memories. Build your career, but don’t forget to build a life.
And most importantly, never confuse being successful with simply appearing successful.
Because the greatest success is not having everything in life. It is finding happiness, purpose, love, and peace in the life you are living.
